Address: 7 Hristo Botev Blvd., Varna
Year of completion: 2019
Investor: Bulgarian Navy Command
Project information:
The building was constructed in 1900 as the “Trudolyubie” Girls’ Craft and Practical School, designed by the French architect Henri Pierre. The initiative belonged to the “Maika” (Mother) charitable society, whose goal was to support socially vulnerable girls and young women through education and vocational skills. Initially, the building was single-story, but a second floor was added in 1914, and in the following decades, it was expanded with additional rooms and a school hall. Its architecture bears the hallmarks of the Neo-Renaissance style, with a distinct symmetrical composition and a characteristically designed main facade.
Today, it is the Sailors’ Club, owned by the Bulgarian Navy, and holds the status of immovable cultural heritage. During the restoration process, the facade plasters were renewed, partial repairs were made to the roof, and the original decorative details were precisely restored. A new wooden front door was crafted for the main entrance based on the original design. Thus, the building has been returned to its authentic architectural appearance, preserving its historical value.
